Width of the 6/sup -/, T = 1, E/sub x/ = 14. 36 MeV state in /sup 28/Si and its relationship to intermediate energy inelastic scattering

The width of the 6/sup -/, T = 1, E/sub x/ = 14.36 MeV state in /sup 28/Si has been measured via the /sup 27/Al( p,p)/sup 27/Al reaction. The value of GAMMA = 3.7 +- 0.4 keV yields a single particle fraction ..beta../sub 1//sup ts2/ = 0.68 +- 0.07 which is shown to be consistent with the combined results for the inelastic excitation of this state by ..pi../sup + -/, p, and e/sup -/ and the /sup 27/Al(/sup 3/He,d)/sup 28/Si(g.s.) reaction.
