Hearings on H. R. 6151, Department of Energy Authorization Legislation (National Security programs) for fiscal year 1983 before the Procurement and Military Nuclear Systems Subcommittee of the Committee on Armed Services, House of Representatives, Ninety-Seventh Congress, Second Session, April 26, 27, and 28, 1982
Three days of hearings on H.R. 6151, which authorizes funding for DOE's defense programs during fiscal year 1983, took place in the wake of popular demonstrations for a nuclear freeze. Committee members spoke of the need for a strong defense system and of the responsibility which the Soviet Union and the rest of the world share in the nuclear threat. Herman E. Rosen, Assistant Secretary for Defense Programs and other DOE staff, laboratory directors, and operations managers described the current DOE defense mission, organization, and budget requirements. The testimony of these witnesses follows the text of H.R. 6151 and the funding requests for nuclear weapons and safeguards and for the plant and capital equipment of 39 defense projects. (DCK)
