Study of inclusive reactions with production of meson resonances in pion-carbon interactions at 5 GeV/c

Total inclusive cross sections for production of rho/sup 0/,..omega.., and f(1270) mesons in ..pi../sup -/C interactions have been measured at 5 GeV/c, together with the corresponding average multiplicities = 0.072 +- 0.019, = 0.033 +- 0.022, and = 0.016 +- 0.010. It is shown that in these interactions about 8% of the ..pi../sup -/ mesons are produced as the result of decay of the indicated meson resonances. In the reaction with production of rho/sup 0/ mesons we have measured the inclusive differential cross sections as a function of the rapidity and the square of the transverse momentum.
