A model taking into account the contributions of the nucleon resonances N*(1470, N*(1519), N*(1652), and N*(1672) and the one-pion gauge-invariant mechanism with absorption of low partial waves is used to study the angular dependence of the polarization characteristics of ..delta.. isobars produced in the reaction ..gamma..p..--> pi../sup -/..delta../sup + +/. The calculation is carried out in the ..delta..-isobar rest frame for E/sub ..gamma../ = 1 GeV. The following cases are studied: 1) the initial particles in ..gamma..p collisions are polarized, 2) the photons are polarized and the protons are unpolarized.
