ALARA system installation at Philadelphia Electric

Conference · · Trans. Am. Nucl. Soc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6300795
The corporate health physics department at the Philadelphia Electric Company (PECo) felt that further controls of radiation dose exposure were required to meet the intent of the as-low-as-reasonably-achievable (ALARA) requirements at their Peach Bottom and Limerick Nuclear Power Stations. Following a bid specification development effort, bids were requested and a custom development effort by Systems Coordination Inc. (SCI) was chosen. The SCI system, named ADEPT, is a custom-designed application of their CHAMPS application development tool and operates on the corporate IBM mainframe. The ADEPT system monitors and controls radiation work permits (RWPs) and radiation dose information (whole body and airborne) received by workers on these permits. The system provides on-line access to the status and history of open and closed RWPs. As presently configured, all dose information is obtained from direct-reading dosimetry and is not the legal record of personnel dose. The addition of features to utilize the monthly thermoluminescent dose has been anticipated and may be added in the future.
