The transportation model is one component of the Wisconsin Regional Energy Model. It's purpose is to forecast annual statewide and subregional transportation energy use. It determines the yearly end use demands for energy and the associated pollutant emissions in Wisconsin. The model consists of three submodels: a personal travel submodel which consists of all automobile travel and local mass transit; an intercity mass transportation (rail, bus, and air) submodel; and a freight submodel. The entire model presently interfaces with the population and environmental impact models and will interface with the energy supply and the econometric models as they are developed. The intercity mass transportation and the freight submodels determine energy use and emissions on a statewide basis. The personal travel submodel, however, is considerably more detailed. The state is divided into 8 transportation districts and 24 subdistricts for computation of travel demand, energy use, and emissions.
