Multichannel ring commutator for high-current accelerators

Journal Article · · Instrum. Exp. Tech. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6297743
This article describes a multichannel ring commutator in which parallel spark channels develop in a single gas-filled volume. A plate with a sharp tip in asymmetric position with respect to the main electrodes is the triggering electrode. The commutating current amounts to 0.4 MA at a switching voltage of 1 MV. The commutator works in a mixture of SF6 and nitrogen in the ratio 1:10 under a pressure of 0.5 MPa.
