During steam soak or steam drive operations to improve offtake from heavy oil reservoirs, injection profiles are often poor resulting in reduced recoveries. This work describes a field proven method for the selective injection of steam in slotted liner completions gravel-packed in the under-reamed production interval. The liner pack-off is attained by incorporating polished nipples in the liner make-up and using matching mandrels equipped with a friction ring hold-down on the injection string. The gravel-pack is plugged by squeezing a mixture of Am-9, bentonite and cement through a port collar set in a liner blank section.
