The asymptotic radiation regime in the outer layers of a homogenous sphere of large optical radius

A study is made of the radiation field in the outer layers of a homogeneous sphere of large optical radius in the case of anisotropic scattering. Asymptotic expressions are obtained for the Green's functions for a sphere with spherically symmetric source distributions and, in particular, a point source at the center. Corresponding asymptotic expressions for the radiation intensities are obtained. It is shown that the solution to the problem of the radiative transfer in the sphere can be expressed asymptotically in terms of the solutions of the Milne problem and the problem of the reflection of light from a plane semi-infinite medium.
