Catalytic properties of superhigh-silica zeolites in some reactions of a carbonium ion type

In a study of the catalytic activity of superhigh-silica zeolites (TsVM, TsVK, ZSM, silicalite) and mordenites in reactions of disproportionation (polymolecular hydrocracking) and isomerization of n-paraffins and toluene disproportionation it was found that the dependence of the zeolite activity on the silicate ratio of synthesis is of an extremal nature. The optimum ratio in the investigated reactions differs widely. An explanation of the effect has been offered on the basis of the difference in the chemical mechanism of formation of carbonium ions as a function of the nature of the starting hydrocarbon and of the presence of a hydrating component.
