The computer simulation of the data acquisition system of the Aleph experiment at CERN-LEP

A detailed computer simulation, using an IBM standard software package, has been run to determine the optimal configuration of the Aleph Data Acquisition System, to select the read-out and communication protocols inside the system and to spot possible sources of dead-locks. Results are presented, which proved to be nontrivial and essential to the project. Such or equivalent approaches are mandatory in the design phase of the DAQ systems at the nextcoming large accelerators.
