Grain contamination in drying by direct biomass heating

Conference · · ASAE Tech. Pap.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6285290
Corn was dried in an in-bin counterflow dryer heated with a concentric-vortex cell biomass furnace fueled with woodchips and corn cobs. The corn was analyzed for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) and heavy metal contamination. The PAH concentration is of the same order of magnitude as that found in corn dried with direct heated fossil fuel dryers. The concentration of heavy metals is negligible.
