Observation of a giant Gamow--Teller resonance in the reaction /sup 90/Zr(/sup 6/Li, /sup 6/He)/sup 90/Nb

The (/sup 6/Li, /sup 6/He) reactions induced by 93-MeV /sup 6/Li ions have been studied in the isotropes /sup 13/C and /sup 90/Zr in the angular interval 10 /sup 0/--14 /sup 0/. A giant Gamow--Teller resonance has been observed in the reaction (/sup 6/Li, /sup 6/He) for the first time, at excitation energy E/sub x/approx.8.7MeV. In addition, an M1 resonance may have been observed at an excitation energy of 13 MeV; this would be the analog of the M1 resonance of the /sup 90/Zr nucleus.
