Possibility theory approaches for advanced information systems

This article describes the application of possibility theory concepts to the treatment of these problems in the context of active information system development. Possibility theory was introduced by Zadeh both as a mechanism to represent natural language constructs and as a tool to treat certain aspects of their imprecision and ambiguity. The approach presented closely follows Zadeh's idea, although the methodology proposed for manipulation is markedly different both from Zadeh's and from the procedures used to combine elements of imprecise information in systems such as prospector. 22 references.
