Two-Body {ital B} Meson Decays to {ital {eta}} and {ital {eta}}{sup {ital {prime}}} : Observation of {ital B{r_arrow}{eta}}{sup {ital {prime}}}{ital K}

In a sample of 6.6{times}10{sup 6} produced B mesons we have observed decays B{r_arrow}{eta}{sup {prime}}K , with branching fractions B(B{sup +}{r_arrow}{eta}{sup {prime}} K{sup +})=(6.5{sup +1.5}{sub {minus}1.4} {plus_minus}0.9){times}10{sup {minus}5} and B(B{sup 0}{r_arrow}{eta}{sup {prime}} K{sup 0})=(4.7{sup +2.7}{sub {minus}2.0} {plus_minus}0.9){times}10{sup {minus}5} . We have searched with comparable sensitivity for 17 related decays to final states containing an {eta} or {eta}{sup {prime}} meson accompanied by a single particle or low-lying resonance. Our upper limits for these constrain theoretical interpretations of the B{r_arrow}{eta}{sup {prime}}K signal. {copyright} {ital 1998} {ital The American Physical Society}
