A complete guide to retrofitting a single-family residence to take advantage of passive solar features is given. Remodeling considerations are discussed as well as the various components of solar design (glazing, thermal storage, heat distribution, summer overheating, etc.). Passive solar additions such as attached greenhouses, sunspaces, thermal storage walls, louvered overhangs, movable insulation, etc., are described in detail. Solar water heating systems are described and nine actual remodeling case studies are illustrated and described briefly.
