Large-beam near-infrared and 24-GHz observations of M8

This paper presents new photometric observations of M8 from 1.2 to 4.6 ..mu.., a 3.5-..mu.. map made with a 46-arcsec beam, and a 24.1-GHz map made with an 80-arcsec beam. A comparison with previous observations at 11 and 69 ..mu.. and of CO suggests that the radio continuum and infrared emission come from the same volume powered by the star Herschel 36. A search for the heating sources of CO Bright Spots 2 and 3 resulted in the detection of two candidates, which need additional infrared observations to ascertain their physical properties and association with the molecular cloud.
