Better way to test meters in large diameter LNG lines

Journal Article · · Pipe Line Ind.; (United States)

Because measurement of LNG flow is potentially much easier than measurement of the corresponding amount in the gas phase, the US National Bureau of Standards is developing (1) a method of testing flowmeters designed for application in large-diameter pipelines and (2) densitometers for use in conjunction with volumetric flowmeters to give mass-flow information. Initial data indicate that a newly developed LNG meter factor that is based on water-flow calibrations may allow accurate measurement of LNG flow. Further comparisons of liquid- and gas-phase measurement data will help to refine calculations.
