Meter design companies have recently introduced various types of computing flowmeters to improve the efficiency of product flow control or energy flow measurements. Some of the instruments entering the marketplace include (1) flow computers with dual digital averaging to stabilize differential-pressure signal fluctuation, (2) integrated flow loops with flow computer-based sensors, (3) utility microcomputers programmable for volumetric or mass flow equations (4) combination gamma-magnetic density, flow, and mass flowmeters that need no compensation for temperature, pressure, viscosity, particle size, or flow profiles, (5) clamp-on ultrasonic-based heat-energy meters, (6) magnetic meters that calibrate themselves to flowtube characteristics, and (7) computer-controlled automatic primary pressure calibration standards.
