Throttle valve control system for an internal combustion engine

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6268886
A throttle valve control system is described for controlling the opening of a throttle valve disposed in an air induction system of an internal combustion engine when the throttle valve is in a position other than its idle position, comprising: engine speed detection means for detecting the rotational speed of the internal combustion engine; pressure detection means for detecting the actual pressure in an intake pipe of the air induction system, downstream of the throttle valve; setting means for setting a target pressure in the intake pipe to attain a minimum fuel consumption rate of the internal combustion engine in accordance with the rotational speed detected by the engine speed detection means; and drive means for driving the throttle valve in a direction and by an amount selected to reduce the actual pressure in the intake pipe when the actual pressure in the intake pipe detected by the pressure detection means is higher than the target pressure set by the target pressure setting means and to increase the actual pressure in the intake pipe when the actual pressure detected by the pressure detection means is lower than the target pressure set by the target pressure setting means.
