Western Interstate Energy Board/WINB annual report, 1977--1978. [Monograph]

Book ·
OSTI ID:6263879
After passage of the Western Interstate Nuclear Compact by Congress in 1970, the Western Interstate Energy Board was almost exclusively concerned with nuclear energy. Many of the states in the Western region do not now benefit from the use of nuclear power to generate electricity, so the Board activities have changed to include all energy issues and the Western Interstate Energy Board/WINB has been created. Due to this change, five committees were formed: State Energy Management, Air Quality Relative to Power Plant Siting, Radiological Wastes, Transportation, and Coal. Summaries of their activities for the year are presented. Additionally, a variety of special projects were instituted in FY 1977--1978 to provide states with the materials and expertise needed to cope with the many energy-related problems and opportunities facing the Western region. These are: Western Solar Utilization Network; Uranium Mining and Milling: Administrator's Guide; Nuclear Energy Centers in the Western United States. Publications by the WIEB/WINB staff are listed. A financial summary of the Board is given. Finally, an overview of energy production and consumption in the states that comprise the WIEB is given. (MCW)
