Coal distribution, January-September 1984

This publication provides volume data on coal distribution by coal-producing district, consumer use, and method of transport. All data in this report are preliminary for 1984 and final for 1980 through 1983. Production and/or purchases of coal in the United States from January through September 1984 totaled 688.7 million short tons. Compared with January through September 1983, production and/or purchases for the current period increased by 19.5%. Producer and distributor coal stocks at the end of September 1984 totaled 29.7 million short tons, a decrease of 12.4% from the level of 33.9 million short tons at the end of December 1983. A total of 692.6 million short tons of coal was distributed during January through September 1984, 19.5% higher than the 579.6 million short tons distributed in the comparable period of 1983.
