Coal distribution, January-March 1983

This publication contains preliminary data on the distribution of coal in the US under the following headings: by coal producing district; by coal producing area; by destination; by consumer category; by method of distribution; by census region and destination and consumer category; by census region and destination and method of transport, and by consumer category and method of transport. Production and/or purchases of coal in the United States from January-March 1983 totaled 191.1 million short tons, 13 percent below the 219.2 million tons produced or purchased during the same period of 1982. Distribution of coal during January-March 1983 totaled 189.8 million tons, a decrease of 10 percent from the 211.4 million tons distributed during January-March 1982. A total of 1.3 million tons of coal was added to stocks held by producers and distributors during January-March 1983. (DMC)
