Lab tests shed light on steam injection

A 9-cu-ft reservoir model is being used at the University of Southern California to study reservoir fluid flow during steam injection. The model is set up to establish the best conditions for cyclic steam injection, but is designed so it can later be used for studying steam displacement. The principal objective of the study is to determine the optimum length of soak, volume of steam injected, and rate of injection. The University also plans to use the model to study reservoir heat transfer and to determine reservoir saturation behavior between steam injection cycles. The model is designed to represent a typical California oil field containing 18$API gravity crude with 15% connate water and a daily production of 10 bbl per well.
