The Environmental Protection Agency has released results from mercury control tests at a 1,050-TPD mass-burn WTE facility in Camden, NJ, equipped with a spray dryer and electrostatic precipitator (SD/ESP) for air pollution control. The agency concluded that an add-on activated carbon injection system can be used to reduce mercury by more than 90%. EPA is using the test to help establish mercury emission limits for municipal waste combustion plants, mandated by the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990.
