Basophilic stippling of erythrocytes in dogs with special reference to lead poisoning

Journal Article · · J. Am. Vet. Med. Assoc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6252737

Of 35 dogs with lead poisoning, 33 (94%) had basophilic stippling; the mean count of stippled RBC was 80/10,000 RBC. It was concluded that counts of 15 or more stippled RBC/10,000 RBC should be considered suggestive. 40 or more are diagnostic of lead poisoning in dogs when associated with other hematologic changes, or signs typical of that disease. 24 references, 1 figure, 5 tables.
