The fractional independent yields of /sup 139/Ba and /sup 142/La from thermal-neutron-induced fission of /sup 249/Cf were found to be 0.14 +- 0.03 and 0.29 +- 0.02, respectively. These yields are consistent with a sigma of approx.0.68 and Z/sub p/ values of 54.80 +- 0.04 and 56.11 +- 0.03 for A = 139 and 142, respectively, and correspond to a value for ..delta..Z (=Z/sub p/-Z/sub UCD/) of approx. - 0.4. No evidence for an odd-even effect was found.
