Off-shell partons, Gottfried sum rule, and dilepton suppression

We argue that off-shell corrections to the parton model may account for a significant part of the reported violation of the Gottfried sum rule in deep inelastic scattering as well as for a relative depletion of Drell-Yan pairs at high [ital x][sub [ital F]] in nuclear targets.
