Lifetime of the D/sup 0/ charmed meson

The lifetime of the neutral charmed meson D/sup 0/ has been measured from 18 D/sup 0/ decays obtained with a hybrid emulsion-spectrometer in a neutrino beam. Although the data are consistent with a single lifetime of 3.23/sub -0.70/sup +0.99/ x 10/sup -13/ seconds, the three observed semileptonic decays have a longer lifetime than the hadronic decays by a factor of 3.7, suggesting that they represent a population with a different lifetime.
