Process for the dealumination of mordenite

A process is described for the dealumination of a zeolite having the structure of mordenite, which comprises contacting said zeolite having the structure of mordenite with dicarboxylic acid and steaming for a sufficient time to effect dealumination wherein the dealuminated zeolite having the structure of mordenite has an Alpha Value of below about 20.
