Provisions of the National Energy Act are expected to result in reduced oil import needs by 1985, increased use of fuels other than oil and gas, and more efficient and equitable use of energy in the US. NEA was passed by Congress on October 15, 1978 and is composed of 5 bills: the National Energy Conservation Policy Act of 1978; the Powerplant and Industrial Fuel Use Act of 1978; the Public Utilities Regulatory Policy Act; the Natural Gas Policy Act of 1978; and the Energy Tax Act of 1978. Provisions of these bills are briefly summarized.
