Discharge pumped laser on the C. -->. A transition of XeF

Direct electrical excitation of laser oscillation centered at 490 nm has been obtained on the C..-->..A transition of XeF in mixtures of He, Xe, and NF/sub 3/ pumped by a self-sustained discharge. Laser output appears to have been limited by the short time available for the buildup of oscillation in the transient discharge.
