Blend calculation and coke quality forecasting for eastern coals, based on petrographic parameters

Journal Article · · Coke Chem. USSR (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6230838
Coking plants in the eastern half of the USSR depend for their coal on a wide spread of colliery suppliers resulting in a wide spectrum of coal properties and petrography. Charges must be calculated to exploit the range of coals available without detracting from coke quality. The chief determinant is the leanness of the coals and charges with respect to their content of caking components. Prediction of coke strength is based on the mean vitrinite reflectances of constituent coals, the caking component content, the microlithotype content and ash. The method is claimed to give satisfactory correlation between practice and theoretical predictions.
