The formation of allenes in the reactions of various propargyl compounds with organometallic reagents has been described for derivatives of magnesium, copper, zinc, and aluminum. They have found that phenyltriisopropoxytitanium reacts with propargyl acetates at 20/sup 0/C in THF in the presence of 5 mole % tetrakis(triphenylphosphine) palladium (II) to form phenylallenes with high regioselectivity.
