Results from studies to select the optimum degree of crushing of a coal charge for the conditions of the Novolipetsk I and SW are given. The studies proceeded from a predetermined relationship between coke quality indices and blast-furnace productivity. It was shown that blast-furnace productivity is correlated with coke strength. This parameter was chosen as the deciding factor in determining the optimum degree of crushing.
