Automatic fill-up floating apparatus
This patent describes a floating apparatus for use in a well, the apparatus comprising: a casing portion; a housing disposed in the casing portion and having a central opening, the housing comprising: an upper portion having a downwardly facing seat thereon; a valve guide disposed in the central opening; and a lower portion defining a body receiving bore; means for fixedly locating the housing in the casing portion; a valve disposed in the housing and comprising: a valve element having an upwardly facing sealing surface engageable with the seat when the valve is in a closed position; and a valve stem extending downwardly from the valve element and guidingly received by the valve guide such that the valve is downwardly displaceable to a variably open position; biasing means for biasing the valve to the closed position; a filling-body defining a cavity for receiving a portion of the valve stem and further defining a substantially longitudinal flow passage in communication with the housing central opening. The filling body has a holding position where the filling body extends upwardly at least partially including upwardly facing shoulder means on the perimeter abutting the lower end of the lower portion; shear means for shearably attaching the valve stem to the filling body such that the valve is held in an open position when the filling body is in the holding position; and flow passage closing means having a closed position for closing the flow passage in response to downward fluid flow through the casing portion and an open position spaced from the filling body for allowing upward fluid flow through the casing portion when the valve is held in the open position by the shearing means.
