This book presents a review of recent developments going as far back as 1965, looking at the pertinent literature. Literature citations with selected abstracts should enable the user of this volume to assess the state-of-the-art and refer to original sources where further details are desired. The volume is divided into five sections for convenient use: Biotechnology and Bioconversion; Ethanol and Methanol Production; Automotive and Other Fuels; Production of Chemical Feedstocks; and Economics of Alcohol Production. The objective of this study is to help one evaluate the potential impacts of biomass-alcohol developments in key production and application sectors.
