Pursuing the science of EMF (electric and magnetic fields)

Journal Article · · EPRI Journal (Electric Power Research Institute); (USA)
OSTI ID:6211346
Research on electric and magnetic fields and their possible effects on human health is entering a period of intense scrutiny. A new battery of carefully designed studies being sponsored by EPRI and other organizations is expected to significantly narrow uncertainties about such health risks in the next few years. Studies of workers in so-called electrical occupations will be particularly important in this research. The spectrum of EMF health research; a closer look at telephone workers and EMF; typical daily exposures from computers, television, electric blankets, electric razors, microwave ovens, HVAC motors, transmission lines and distribution substation; epidemiologic origins; magnetic field sources; residential magnetic fields; the search for cellular mechanisms; related studies here and abroad; and a timetable for EPRI projects in EMF are included in this presentation.
