This patent describes a maintenance system. It is for detecting, in each of many generally identical cables, faults which cause intermittent attenuation of electromagnetic radiation transmitted through the cable, each of the cables including lines extending the length of the cable, each of the cables having a first end including first connector means and having a second end including second connector means, each of the lines terminating at the first and second connector means, each of the first and second connector means normally being removably connected to mating means in a system, each of the connector means being disconnected from the mating means during utilization of the maintenance system.
