Double K-shell vacancy creation in the decay of /sup 109/Pd and /sup 109/Cd

The probability P/sub K/K(IC) of double K-shell vacancy creation per K internal conversion of the 88 keV E3 transition in the decay of /sup 109/Ag/sup m/ has been determined by means of a K..cap alpha..-x-ray--K-x-ray coincidence experiment on /sup 109/Pd: P/sub K/K(IC) = (13.0 +- 1.1) x 10/sup -5/. From P/sub K/K(IC) and a similar experiment on /sup 109/Cd the probability P/sub K/K(EC) of double K-shell vacancy production per K-electron capture decay of /sup 109/Cd has been determined as well: P/sub K/KEC = (1.02 +- 0.36) x 10/sup -5/. The energy shift of the hypersatellite Ag K..cap alpha../sup H//sub 1/-x-ray line was found to be 532 +- 6 eV.
