Modern facilities that allow the transport of large process vessels include ocean-going ships with cranes that can load and off-load items weighing up to 800 tons; barges with a 20,000 lb/sq ft deck-loading capacity and the ability to carry 2000 tons of cargo; rail routes in the U.S. that will handle items 12 ft in width; rail equipment that will handle loads of up to 600 tons; crawler transporters, which can be used in tandem, with capacities of 800 tons/crawler; tired lowboys and dollies with 500 ton capacities; self-loading hydraulic transporters with wheels sets that turn up to 54/sup 0/ and with the ability, when combined, to handle loads of over 1000 tons; and cranes with 1600 ton capacities in the U.S. and 2500 ton capacities in Japan. Other transport considerations, including the transport of thin-wall vessels and of very long vessels, and means of minimizing height and width dimensions, are discussed.
