A partial wave analysis of the ..pi../sup 0//eta/ angular distributions has been performed using three different methods. It clearly indicates the existence of a resonance with exotic quantum numbers: /ital J//sup /ital PC//=1/sup /minus/+/, /ital I//sup /ital G//=1/sup /minus// at /ital M//sub ..pi..//sup 0//sub /eta///congruent/1400 MeV. This is the first observation of a meson that can in no way be a /ital qq/bar // state. A new peak is also observed in the S wave at /ital M//sub ..pi..//sup 0//sub /eta///congruent/1300 MeV, it could be the regular ..cap alpha../sub 0/ member of the /sup 3//ital P//sub 0/ scalar nonet.
