Climate of China
This book describes the climate of China by summarizing results from a variety of research activity on weather and climate over the Chinese territory and its vicinity. The book is synoptical and descriptive in approach and relies on observations made prior to the early 1980s. The present volume is a translation by Ding Tan from its original Chinese edition. The authors have attempted to cover a broad range of subjects related to the climate of China in less than 400 pages; this book is more a review than a text. Several chapters are devoted to describing the predominant weather systems and associated variations of meteorological fields and phenomena. One chapter summarizes historical development of delineation of the Chinese climate since the 1930s. Another chapter briefly discusses the basic mechanisms responsible for the current climate of China. The final chapter covers the distribution of agroclimate resources of China, the potential of climate resources for food production, the effects on agriculture of climate variations, and climate adversities that devastate agricultural production. The book is a good reference for those in the field of climate research and may serve as a guide for those requiring basic climate information on China or one of its regions.
