Book ·
OSTI ID:6278592
Because of its tremendous population, economic development strategies and natural resource base, China is causing significant environmental change, with impacts that extend regionally and globally. Gradually a policy approach to global change issues and research is evolving in China. This report is first a reference for individuals who wish to develop collaborative projects with Chinese colleagues, particularly individuals with limited experience. Second, by discussing the way Chinese science is organized, the report provides insights into research priorities, institutional infrastructure, human resources and other factors that constrain or faciliate Chinese responses to global change. The 6 chapters cover the following general areas: the importance of involving China in international global change research programs; how China views global change; overview of Chinese institutions involved in policy or funding global change research; Chinese research relevant to IGBP and WCRP and the Chinese Ecological Research Network; specific Chinese research topics; China's contributions to global change research and prospects for collaboration. Six appendices are included.
