A phase-shift analysis of elastic pp scattering at the energies 580, 650, 750, 800, and 1000 MeV is carried out. The main difference between this analysis and previous analyses lies in the construction of the trajectories of the amplitude zeros and the use of them to select the solutions. A chain of solutions characterized by a smooth behavior of both the amplitude-zero trajectories and the phase shifts is obtained as a result. The amplitudes for the /sup 1/D/sub 2/, /sup 3/F/sub 3/, /sup 3/P/sub 2/, and, possibly, /sup 3/P/sub 0/ states exhibit resonance-like behavior. The investigation of the amplitude-zero trajectories leads to the conclusion that dibaryon resonances apparently do not exist.
