A manufacturing technology was developed for the production of adsorbents based on USSR palygorskite clays and intended for treating aromatic hydrocarbons to remove unsaturates. Upgraded adsorbents were obtained by decantation with subsequent dispersion in a laboratory mixer. Washing was monitored by flame photometry according to the contents of sodium, potassium, and calcium cations in the washwater. The efficiency of treating an aromatic stock was evaluated by the quantity of feed treated with unit mass of adsorbent. A model mixture of benzene and toluene with 0.1% added heptenes comprised the feed. A simplified flow plan of the adsorbent production unit is shown.
