Static behavior of variable thickness superconducting microbridges

In the case of variable thickness superconducting microbridges, the bridge region is often considered as a one-dimensional problem, and the presence of the bank regions only provides some rigid-boundary conditions. In the zero voltage case, the order parameter in the bridge region satisfies a one-dimensional Ginzburg-Landau equation. The solutions, which satisfy the Ginzburg-Landau equation and are subject to rigid boundary conditions, are not unique. In order to determine the solution completely, it is realized that one must satisfy the condition of minimum free energy of the system.
