Stability boundary for flute waves in an axisymmetric tandem mirror

Timofeev has shown )Pis'ma v ZhETF 29, 227 (1979) (JETP Lett. 29, 204 (1979))) that flute modes can be stabilized in an axisymmetric confinement system consisting of three ordinary mirrors because of the large central section, which increases the inertia of the system. The stability boundary for these waves is found in the present paper.
