Single phase icosahedral samples are obtained by annealing melt spun Al{sub 75}Cu{sub 15}V{sub 10} amorphous alloys. The kinetics of this amorphous to icosahedral phase transformation were measured isothermally and nonisothermally by differential scanning calorimetry and changes in electrical resistivity. Transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray analysis indicate that the transformation proceeds polymorphically by nucleation and growth, ruling out a microquasicrystal model of the glass in this system. Fits are made to a kinetic model. The difference in enthalpy between the amorphous and icosahedral phase is {minus}1.9 kJ/mol. The extrapolated residual resistivities of the amorphous and icosahedral phase of 152 {mu}{Omega}-cm and 179 {mu}{Omega}-cm, respectively.
