Over the last few years Garrett's AiResearch Manufacturing Company in Torrance, California, has been refining its basic generator design to introduce higher-performance models for a greater variety of gas-turbine engine sizes, applications, and temperatures. The US Navy is funding three competitive industry studies for recuperated high-efficiency propulsion gas turbines in the 15,000 to 25,000 hp range, all based on Garrett regenerator technology.
